Starting clinical rotations can be very nerve wrecking, so here are some helpful tools and videos that can help you prepare.
Material to Review:
***Clinical Rotations Workshop!!! and check out the Clinical Rotations Workshop (lecture recording)
**Review your course material BEFORE each shift. Lecture and clinical rotations go hand-in-hand, so be prepared to answer questions and ask questions during clinicals. Clinical rotations allows you to learn through hands-on training.
Items to bring for Clinicals:
Nursing brain -> is a term for a piece of paper, or several pieces of paper, that we use to capture really important patient information to keep us organized
Medical reference clipboard-> During clinical, you're going to be writing a lot of notes and the nursing edition clipboard has a fold-able feature which is perfect for storing the clipboard in your white coat pocket or scrubs. The clipboard also functions as a quick medical reference guide with detailed day-to-day information such as basic laboratory values (metric values), acid base determination, injection sites, pain scale, and much more.
"Thank You" cards (optional) -> Show your appreciation for your nurse, preceptor, or medical staff by writing them a thoughtful "thank you" letter. Write and reflect about what you learned that day and what you learned during your shift. I did this for all of the nurses I was paired with and I wish I had started it sooner...it makes the staff feel good and you feel good so why not? :)

Some important points that are covered in the "Clinical Rotations Workshop" so go check it out! :)
